A discounting company may buy a firm's outstanding invoices for, say, 75% of their face value. Thereafter, any receipts from payment of these invioces are forwarded to the discount house.

This differs slightly from factoring as the firm continues to collects its own debt therefore customers remain unaware of any cash flow difficulties.
